Without expertise it is difficult to get differentiated in the crowd and gain success and respect
But it is not easy to build expertise. It requires skills to gain right knowledge and put consistent efforts over a long period of time.
Following Tips will be helpful to gain expertise in your field :
Gain the right knowledge- General knowledge is available widely but specialized knowledge has to be earned. Keep looking for this right knowledge to build expertise. You need to keep testing this knowledge against practical situations to keep it relevant.
Constant efforts- Constant efforts are required over a longer period of time to become an expert. if you cannnot spend long hours over one subject then it is difficult to become an expert.
Seek experts- Seek experts in your field and try to learn from them. Seek appointment with them and express your desire so that they can take you under their umbrella
Learn from multiple sources- Try to gain perspectives from multiple sources. It helps to understand one subject from various view point and expand breadth of knowledge
Go in depth- It is important to go in depth. it is easier to go in breadth than in depth. I have seen many individuals who go more sideways in a subject then downward. it is important to build this capability by regular practice of focusing your mind to excel in a field.
Use what if method- While learning, use what if scenarios to understand the things holistically. Try various scenarios and what would happen in each case.
Enjoy the learning- Make learning fun but it will not happen automatically. Initially there will be pain when you start. you may feel lost and may not be able to relate the things but over a period of time as you gain expertise you will start enjoy the learning.
